Manfred Bischoff is one of the
great goldsmiths of Europe. Winner of many prizes and
honors, Bischoff has pioneered an art vocabulary in
jewelry for some twenty years. Born in 1947, he worked
in Munich and Berlin before moving to Tuscany where
he now resides. Through the years he has primarily worked
with gold, coral, and jade. His minute sculptures are
deceptively simple, barely masking the ferocious irony
and satire that often underlines his work. His month
long residency at the Gardner Museum in February 2002
is being spent contemplating and reading in preparation
for his June installation.

Nari Ward
Bus Park
(Conceptual Sketch)
2002 |
October 16, 2002 January 5,
2003
Artist Nari Ward uses commonplace
objects to create evocative, materially dense environments
in which everyday materials are transformed into imaginary
landscapes, resonating with the themes of memory, faith,
history and the collective experience. While in residency
at the Gardner Museum, Ward became very interested in
the sense community at the Museum and in the behind-the-scenes
activities of the Conservation and Education departments,
two of the pivotal cornerstones of the Museum. Episodes:
Bus Park & Forevermore, is a two part exhibition.
Forevermore can be seen in the Special Exhibition
Gallery while Bus Park is located outdoors in
the garden.
