Gardner Café wins ImproperBostonian’s “Boston’s
Best” 2004 for Indulgence – Dessert in the courtyard
at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Gardner Café.
“ If
you’re going to ingest unnecessary calories, you might
as well make it a completely sensory experience and do it
in a truly sybaritic setting. The courtyard café at
the Gardner Museum offers delicious food in general, but
the gorgeous surrounds seem especially appropriate for the
decadence of dessert. The bread pudding earns audible moans
of ecstasy, with flavors that change seasonally. In the past
year, they’ve included pumpkin, white chocolate, blueberry
and banana, each more sinfully delicious than the last. Chocoholics
will plotz over the chocolate mousse torte (rich chocolate
mousse on a dense chocolate base) and coffee cravers will
cotton to the mocha cannolis. An additional benefit to the
setting: You can walk off some of your indiscretion with
a stroll through the museum’s magnificent galleries
afterward.
